Chen Jinqun · Contemporary Ceramic Artist / Educator
Chen Jinqun is a ceramic artist and faculty member at the China Academy of Art, as well as a member of the China Artists Association. His practice focuses on the contemporary expression of clay as a language, exploring the deep relationships between material, form, and cultural imagery within both teaching and artistic creation.
His works are characterized by an emphasis on materiality, structural sensibility, and the subtlety of Eastern aesthetics. Moving between vessel and sculpture, he balances the natural textures of clay with the clarity of design thinking. His creations reflect an attentiveness to the state of things and the growth of form, underscoring the ideas that “clay is language” and “form is thought.”

在陈进群看来，陶土不仅是一种材料，更是一种生命形态的隐喻。

Artistic Statement
For Chen Jinqun, clay is not merely a material — it is a metaphor for a living form.
In his work:
Forms emerge from a reinterpretation of nature, everyday objects, and cultural imagery.
The granularity, weight, and tactility of clay are amplified and transformed into an aesthetic language.
Each piece retains traces of hand-forming and the passage of time, giving the object a breath-like presence.
He emphasizes that “forms grow,” rather than being deliberately carved or imposed.
His works often blur the boundary between function and sculpture, using the vessel as a carrier of reflections on space, weight, and the state of being placed.
